Strange howls are echoing through Moonbeam Meadow, an enormous pawprint has appeared in the mud, and something with silver fur is moving through Mistwood Forest. The Keepers need help solving the mystery. Young readers join the Animal Rescue Unit as field trainees, following the trail and gathering clues to discover what is hiding in the forest and what it wants.

Inside the Adventure

This time, reading becomes part of the investigation! Learners read both fiction and nonfiction as they discover how real animal trackers use pawprints, fur, broken branches, and other signs to understand what happened in the forest. Along the way, they'll solve vocabulary and word challenges, make observations, sketch the mysterious creature, and collect clues hidden throughout the activities.

Then they’ll bring all their evidence together on a map of the mystery, decide what they think has been wandering through Mistwood Forest, and write their own conclusion before reading the final Keeper Report to discover whether they solved the case.
